I love this project!

We started out by having a discussion about Earth Day and what it means to take care of the earth around them. Next, I introduced the medium of Collage. Few students had heard of collage, and fewer had ever made one. I showed them a few collages that I have made and shared with them why I love collage. I asked them to find pieces within the collages that stood out to them, and what stories were being told.

Because there are many steps and supplies for this project, I really focused on walking the students through the processes and procedures for gathering supplies, planning their layouts, and putting it all together.

Overall, I think the students enjoyed working in a new medium. It is fun to introduce them to different means of art-making. This lesson was a success!
